Groups

Label and filter related links, merge duplicates, and stay organized as your list grows.

A group is a folder-style label that keeps related links together. Groups are optional, but they make life easier once you have more than a handful of links. Nothing about the short URL changes — groups exist to help you find and filter things later.

Need to set up the domain your links run on first? See Using Your Own Domain.

Good group names

Name groups after real-world buckets you already think in, for example:

  • a client or brand — Acme Corp
  • a campaign — Spring Launch 2026
  • a channel — Email Newsletter, Facebook Ads

Creating and using groups

On the Groups page, type a name into Quick add group name and click Add. Then choose that group in the Group field when you create or edit a link. On the Links page, the Group filter narrows the table to just that set. The Links column on the Groups page tells you how many links each group holds.

Merging duplicate groups

Ended up with near-duplicate groups such as Spring Sale and spring sale? Tick both, click Merge, and pick the one to keep. The links from the others are moved across and the empty groups are removed, so nothing is lost.

Tip: a few meaningful groups beat dozens of one-off ones. If a group only ever holds one link, you probably do not need it.

A simple order of operations

  1. Add your domain and finish setup (DNS, SCT Connect, or the standalone script).
  2. Create a group for the campaign or client you are working on.
  3. Create your links, choosing that domain and group as you go.

Doing it in this order avoids the most common cleanup job: dozens of links with no group and the wrong domain.
